What Is Wagyumama Schoolhouse?

Wagyumama Schoolhouse is a Unique Hybrid  Homeschool instructional Program, built around strong academics, mastery-based learning, faith, movement and real-world learning experience.  Students learn in small groups, move through reading and math based on what they’re ready to master next, and spend part of their day learning through projects, nature, practical skills and hands-on experiences.We accept PEP and UA Step Up scholarships.

What curriculum do you use?

For reading and language arts, we use our Lit Lab model, including RLAC, phonics, literature studies and writing. Students are assessed and grouped by the skills they are ready to learn, not simply by age or grade.For math, we use Math-U-See, a hands-on, mastery-based program that moves students forward as they truly understand each concept.Project-Based Learning connects history, science, research, building and real-world application through shared quarterly themes.

Are you a faith-based Program? What does that mean?

Yes. Faith is woven into the rhythm of our Schoolhouse through our Morning Gathering, where students begin the day with the Pledge, prayer, Scripture and a character focus.We teach biblical principles such as honesty, responsibility, respect, kindness and doing the right thing even when no one is watching.We are not a church or a denominational program, and we leave formal religious instruction to each family and their faith community.

What ages do you serve?

We serve students beginning at age 5 through middle school. As students get older, we work with families to support the transition into dual enrollment and other next-step learning opportunities when they are ready.

How does your mastery-based learning work?

Accepted Answer

Students are assessed in reading and math so we can see exactly what they are ready to learn next. From there, they are placed into small mastery groups — or tables — with students working on the same skills, rather than being grouped simply by age or grade.As students master a concept, they move forward and regroup as needed. This allows us to challenge students who are ready for more while giving extra support where it is needed.

Do student receive homework?

We do not assign traditional nightly homework or busywork.Our focus is on strong skill mastery, reading habits and meaningful learning during the Schoolhouse day. Families may occasionally receive reading, review or unfinished work to support what a student is currently learning, but we do not believe home should become an extension of a full school day.We want students to have time for family, movement, interests and real life outside of Schoolhouse.

What school calendar do you follow?

Wagyumama Schoolhouse generally follows the Walton County School District calendar for major holidays, breaks and school closures.Our Schoolhouse calendar may include additional professional development days, special events or program-specific dates, which are shared with families in advance.
